Samsung accidentally leaks "Wide" iPhone Ultra foldable competitor: Dual cameras, wider design confirmed?

Samsung must be feeling the heat as Apple prepares to enter the foldable race later this year.
Now, in what seems like a preemptive strike, designs for the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a brand-new Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide have surfaced within Samsung’s own One UI 9 firmware files.
We can (once again) see that the "Wide" variant marks a significant pivot for the lineup, opting for a shorter, broader aspect ratio that departs from the narrow cover screens of previous generations.
According to the latest information, the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 maintains a more traditional, elongated design with a folded height of 158.4 mm and a narrow width of 72.8 mm. In contrast, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Wide is significantly shorter, standing at just 123.9 mm tall (nearly 35 mm shorter than its sibling), while expanding to a much wider 82.2 mm when folded. When unfolded, the Wide variant creates a 4:3 aspect ratio that is 18.2 mm wider than the standard model, though it is slightly thicker at 9.8 mm.
As previous renders and leaked design models suggested, the Wide model appears to sport a dual-camera setup. It’s highly likely we’re looking at a large 200MP primary sensor and a 50MP ultrawide - ditching the telephoto lens found on the standard Fold 8.
Both the "Wide" and the "Narrow" 2026 Galaxy foldables are expected to be powerhouses, featuring the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy. However, the real star of the show will be the new crease-less OLED panels. Samsung is clearly aiming for a more refined, durable aesthetic to maintain its market lead.
The South Korean giant is expected to launch the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and its new "Wide" variant at a Galaxy Unpacked event in July, with an actual release rumored for July 22, 2026. Breaking from its usual tradition of hosting in South Korea or the United States, rumors suggest the launch will take place in London. Meanwhile, Apple’s foldable iPhone Ultra is expected to break cover in September.
