The wait for new Microsoft Surface PCs may almost be over. On April 29, we reported that multiple Surface Laptop and Surface Pro machines had turned up on Geekbench. In summary, all were powered by processors from Intel's Panther Lake family.
By contrast, no equivalent listings for Snapdragon X2 variants have emerged yet. Previously, Windows Central suggested that it could be July 2026 before Microsoft replaces the ARM-powered Surface Pro 11 (curr. $899 on Amazon) and other current Surface PCs. According to Roland Quandt, that may no longer be the case.
Writing on WinFuture, the leaker reports that Microsoft is preparing to unveil new ARM-based consumer devices in mid-May. Quandt adds that these should be joined by Intel variants too, which Microsoft will sell under its 'for Business' line that consumers can purchase as well.
Ultimately, too many unanswered questions exist at this stage. Based on recent rumours, the Surface Laptop 8 will gain optional OLED displays while being restricted to a 13.8-inch size for consumers. Meanwhile, 'for Business' variants are expected to ship in 13.8-inch and 15-inch variants with up to a Core Ultra X7 368H processor packing Arc B390 graphics. 5G connectivity may be available from day one for the Surface Pro 12 'for Business' too.
