Roland Quandt and WinFuture lifted the lid on Microsoft's upcoming Surface Laptop and Surface Pro releases. As we discussed at the time, the company's new PC hardware will not be a straightforward refresh of its existing Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 generations (curr. $999 on Amazon).
Instead, Microsoft is rumoured to be discontinuing the ARM-powered Surface Laptop with a 15-inch display. A larger Surface Laptop 'for Business' powered by Intel Panther Lake processors should be available, though. According to Windows Central, Microsoft is set to invert the release schedules for its new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro generations, too.
To recap, Microsoft introduced the Surface Laptop 7 and Surface Pro 11 with Qualcomm Snapdragon X processors in May 2024. However, it waited until January 2025 before launching Intel Lunar Lake equivalents. Allegedly, we should expect to see new Intel-powered Surface releases first this time around.
Specifically, Windows Central believes that Intel options will debut 'this spring'. In other words, Microsoft's first batch of Surface Laptop 8 and Surface Pro 12 releases should land between May and the end of June. Intel processor options are rumoured to be on the limited side, though.
Meanwhile, Snapdragon X2 options are said to be arriving 'in the summer'. Presuming a northern hemisphere summer, Windows Central states that Snapdragon X2 chipsets remain in short supply. Hence, current Snapdragon-powered variants may remain on shelves until July, August or even early September 2026.
