Roland Quandt and WinFuture revealed plenty of information about Microsoft's new Surface Laptop and Surface Pro releases. Covered separately, the leak disclosed details about not just new ARM-powered Surface hardware, but also upcoming x86-powered hardware featuring Intel Panther Lake processors.
However, Quandt did not disclose whether Microsoft planned to update its smaller Surface Laptop 13 and Surface Pro 12 (curr. $894 on Amazon) devices. Launched almost a year ago, these releases traded downgraded hardware for smaller form factors than their larger Surface Laptop and Surface Pro counterparts.
Microsoft continues to offer these smaller devices exclusively with Qualcomm's Snapdragon X Plus X1P-42-100 chipset. According to Windows Central, the company plans to adopt a different strategy for its 'smaller Surface Pro and Surface Laptop' this year.
Specifically, Windows Central reports that Microsoft will 'introduce Intel variants', which may arrive months before their Snapdragon X2-powered counterparts. It is unclear whether these new 13-inch Surface Laptop and 12-inch Surface Pro variants will debut alongside their larger Surface Laptop and Surface Pro siblings, though. Likewise, Windows Central has not clarified if Microsoft will sell these Intel variants under its 'for Business', either.
