Bethesda's August 2026 Skyrim Special Edition update raises console mod storage to 15 GB, redesigns the Creations storefront, and fixes Steam Deck and Creation Kit crashes.

Bethesda Game Studios has released the August 2026 update for The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition. The patch raises console mod storage limits, redesigns the Creations storefront, and applies stability fixes across consoles, PC, and Steam Deck.

Console mod storage jumps to 15 GB on PS5 and Xbox

The headline change increases reserved mod storage on PlayStation 5 and Xbox consoles to 15 GB, up from the previous 5 GB cap. PlayStation 4 owners receive a separate allocation of roughly 16 GB. However, Bethesda warns that differences in PS4 storage hardware can cause downloaded package sizes not to match installed footprints and that storage partitioning may limit how many large creations can be installed at once. PC mod storage is unaffected, since the platform has never enforced a cap.

The update also extends the Verified Creators program. Eligible Creations can now be tagged Achievement-Friendly on Xbox or Trophy-Friendly on PlayStation, though enabling achievements on already-installed Creations requires starting a new playthrough. PlayStation Creations also gain support for additional file types, including .nif, .dds, .bink, .wav, and .fuz archives.

Storefront and Creation Kit updates align with Starfield

The Creations menu has been redesigned to match Starfield and Fallout 4, adding creation bundling, sorting by "Most Popular," and support for widescreen box art at 3640 x 900 and 900 x 506. Bookmarked work-in-progress creations can now be viewed directly from the menu.

On PC and Steam Deck, the update fixes a crash triggered by opening the virtual keyboard on Steam Deck, along with crashes tied to race transformations and empty Creations search results. The Creation Kit gains multi-master loading enabled by default, localization export support, and a search and replace tool brought in line with Starfield's, adding buttons to select forms in the Object Window and open the Form Editor.

Bethesda has said the update should not affect existing load orders, though it recommends players load their save at least once as a precaution.
