Gamescom 2026 sells out exhibition space for the first time

Organizers Koelnmesse and game, the German Games Industry Association, have confirmed that Gamescom 2026 has completely sold out its 233,000-square-meter exhibition floor for the first time in the show's history. The Cologne convention now hosts more than 1,600 exhibitors from 67 countries, up from 1,568 exhibitors in 2025, with 70 percent of exhibitors traveling from outside Germany.
Newly confirmed names joining the show floor include Konami, Tencent Games, Embark Studios, and Level Infinite, alongside previously announced exhibitors such as Nintendo, Xbox, Electronic Arts, Ubisoft, and Capcom. Saturday day passes and wildcard tickets sold out ahead of the show's opening, and organizers say they are already exploring hall expansions for 2027 to meet demand.
International growth and indie expansion
The show floor now includes 47 country pavilions representing 40 nations, up from 40 pavilions and 35 nations in 2025. Bulgaria, Cyprus, Hungary, Morocco, and Nigeria are participating with pavilions for the first time. The Gamescom Indie Area has grown to more than 420 companies, a 16 percent increase over 2025's 364 developers, as organizers position the section as a central platform for games built outside major publishing pipelines.
Ahead of the main show, Gamescom Dev runs from August 23 to 25 as Europe's largest developer conference, featuring more than 220 sessions and 390 speakers, including representatives from Sony Interactive Entertainment, Insomniac Games, and Epic Games.
Political first and broadcast lineup
Gamescom 2026 also marks a political milestone. Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier will become the first sitting German head of state to attend the show, opening the Gamescom Congress on Thursday, August 27, alongside a program built around the theme of games and democracy that runs 85 talks and panels across 165 speakers. The wider Gamescom week runs from August 23 to 30, with the main exhibition open from August 26 to 30.
Digital programming begins Tuesday, August 25, with Geoff Keighley and co-host Eefje "Sjokz" Depoortere hosting Gamescom Opening Night Live. The week's broadcast lineup also includes the Gamescom Awesome Indies showcase, produced in partnership with IGN, and the European debut of Gamescom GDQ, a charity speedrunning marathon running alongside the show. Cologne's city center also hosts the Gamescom City Festival on August 29 and 30, with live music acts joining the wider community program.
