Halo Campaign Evolved update adds visual toggles and gameplay fixes

Halo Studios has released its biggest post-launch update yet for Halo: Campaign Evolved, following an earlier patch in July. The August 17 build delivers visual quality-of-life toggles requested by the community, corrects a platform-specific weapon issue, and fixes progression-blocking bugs in the game's new prequel missions.
Video options tackle post-processing effects and upscaling
The headline changes center on player-controlled post-processing effects. Following feedback about screen clarity, the video settings menu now includes independent toggles to turn off chromatic aberration and film grain across all versions.
The update also adds a "None" option under the Upscaling Technique setting on PC, bypassing upscaling and anti-aliasing entirely for players who want native rendering on high-end hardware. Frame Generation stability during cinematics has improved too, as the engine now automatically disables Frame Generation during pre-rendered cutscenes before re-enabling it once gameplay resumes.
Sgt. Johnson fix and weapon parity lead gameplay changes
On the gameplay side, the patch addresses several issues tied to Sgt. Johnson's behavior during the opening Boarding Action mission of the new Operation: Meteorite prequel campaign, fixing bugs that could block progression.
Weapon performance has also been normalized. Halo Studios found that the assault rifle had been firing more slowly than intended on Xbox and PC, a rounding bug that also let its accuracy stay tighter than designed. The patch restores the weapon's intended rate of fire and handling to match its behavior on PlayStation 5.
Combat against Covenant Jackals have been adjusted too, with the shield-bearing enemies now staggering more reliably when hit in the hands or feet. Installing the patch will reset any active mid-mission save data, though unlocked missions and rally points remain available.
Other fixes round out the release
The update also adds an in-game option to start an account-unlinking request and brings general stability and frame rate improvements on PlayStation 5. To mark the update, players who sign in after August 17 automatically receive a new electric blue "Recompilation" armor skin, with redemption via Halo Waypoint available as a backup for anyone who doesn't get it automatically.
