Mortal Shell II removes the stamina bar and adds ranged sidearms, now live in Advanced Access ahead of its worldwide August 20 launch on PC, PS5, and Xbox.

Publisher Playstack and developer Cold Symmetry have launched Mortal Shell II into Advanced Access ahead of its worldwide release on August 20 for PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Players who purchased the digital Devout Edition gained up to 72 hours of early access starting August 17, stepping into a dark fantasy sequel that reworks several of the Souls-like genre's core systems. The launch follows an open beta that drew more than a million players across Steam, PS5, and Xbox, and the studio says no familiarity with the original 2020 game is required.

Stamina removed in favor of posture and ranged combat

The most significant structural change in Mortal Shell II is the removal of the stamina bar. Rather than managing a resource meter during fights, players now track posture: blocking, parrying, and landing hits chip away at an enemy's posture bar, and breaking it opens them up to a critical riposte or execution. The returning Harden ability lets players briefly turn to stone and absorb a hit, and it can be triggered mid-swing or mid-air, letting a paused attack animation resume the instant the stone shell shatters.

Combat has also expanded beyond melee. The sequel adds sidearms, including the shotgun-like Naylshotte, alongside heavier ranged weapons, letting players soften enemies from a distance before closing in. Progression is built around eight usable warrior Shells found throughout the game's interconnected world, each granting a distinct active ability and its own passive skill tree, with weapon and Shell upgrades handled through the Tarforge.

Unreal Engine 5 visuals and PC requirements

Built on Unreal Engine 5, Mortal Shell II supports ray-traced reflections and global illumination on top of Lumen-based lighting. On PC, the game includes Nvidia DLSS 4.5 Super Resolution and Multi-Frame Generation, alongside dedicated performance modes on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The Standard Edition unlocks worldwide on August 20 for $49.99, or the regional equivalent. Minimum PC requirements call for an SSD with 70GB of available storage, 16GB of RAM, an Intel Core i7-10700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600 processor, and a GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER or AMD Radeon RX 6600 graphics card.
