Frogwares releases The Sinking City 2 on August 18, 2026. Explore flooded 1920s Arkham in this Unreal Engine 5 survival horror sequel for PC, PS5, and Xbox.

Developer Frogwares officially released The Sinking City 2 on August 18, 2026, across PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S. Built on Unreal Engine 5, the sequel shifts the franchise away from the deduction-heavy structure of the 2019 original, pivoting into full survival horror set in a flooded, Lovecraftian vision of 1920s Arkham.

New protagonist Calvin Rafferty enters flooded Arkham

The narrative replaces former private investigator Charles Reed with a new main character named Calvin Rafferty. After a dreaming ritual goes wrong, Rafferty's girlfriend, Faye, becomes trapped in a supernatural coma.

Players navigate through the drowned streets and crumbling mansions of Arkham to reverse the curse. Gameplay focuses on inventory management, scarce ammunition, and defensive combat against mutated human husks known as the Slither.

While environmental puzzles and clues remain present throughout the world, deduction mechanics take a back seat to real-time action, resource conservation, and shortcut navigation.

Kickstarter campaign helped fund creature designs during wartime development

Frogwares developed the title amidst ongoing challenges connected to the war in Ukraine. To help with funding and expanding monster designs and secure financial flexibility, the team launched a Kickstarter campaign in March 2025. The campaign reached its initial target of 100,000 euros within two hours, eventually collecting over 394,000 euros from more than 4,100 backers. These funds allowed the studio to expand its bestiary, adding larger enemy variants like the skittering Smasher and the amorphous Shoggoth to the final game.

Early reviews highlight Resident Evil-inspired combat and UE5 atmosphere

Initial critic reviews praise the visual upgrade provided by Unreal Engine 5 and the smoother character movement. Publications have likened the game's combat and mansion navigation to a blend of Resident Evil and Silent Hill, noting that while investigation mechanics are simpler than past Frogwares releases, the atmospheric dread and monster design carry the experience.
