The Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (starting at $1,300 on Amazon) was officially announced on 25 February. Aside from the new Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 for Galaxy, the innovative Privacy Display, and faster cameras, the flagship hasn’t received too many upgrades. Contrary to earlier rumours, the Galaxy S26 Ultra doesn’t include built-in Qi2 magnets. To use magnetic chargers or other accessories, users will need a case with integrated magnets.
Max Jambor discovered that the Galaxy S26 Ultra shows a warning message when paired with a magnetic case, informing users that magnets may interfere with the S Pen’s functionality. Samsung recommends removing the magnetic accessory if the stylus stops working properly. Interestingly, this alert reportedly appears only with third-party Qi2 cases, while Samsung’s official cases seem unaffected.
Samsung has yet to explain how the magnets in its first-party cases differ from those in third-party offerings. However, this warning could possibly be a way to steer consumers towards official Samsung accessories. Early reviews are expected to arrive in the next few days, which should shed light on how Qi2 accessories might affect the S Pen. Until then, it may be wise to hold off on purchasing third-party magnetic accessories to avoid any unnecessary interference.
