Galaxy S26 Ultra missing another upgrade following display misinformation

Samsung was recently called out for misleading the media about the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s display. The company advertised the phone to have 10-bit color depth but in fact, it uses an 8-bit panel and is likely benefiting from Frame Rate Control (FRC) to stimulate 10-bit color. Now, it has been reported that the phone lacks another upgrade, but thankfully Samsung did not mislead anyone about it.
The Galaxy S26 Ultra, according to Phonearena, comes with the previous gen UFS 4.0 storage rather than the newer 4.1 standard. This is another area that Samsung has not upgraded over the Galaxy S25 Ultra (buy on Amazon). While the company didn’t advertise the newer standard for its latest flagship, it was expected that UFS 4.1 would be implemented, if not UFS 5.0. Notably, the OnePlus 15 (buy on Amazon) comes with UFS 4.1 storage and even the cheaper OnePlus Turbo 6 comes with it. Other flagships from Xiaomi, Vivo, iQOO, and others do as well.
Even though UFS 4.1 is only an iterative upgrade over UFS 4.0, it does bring improvements like faster data access, more effective memory maintenance, improvements to WireBooster Buffer Resize, and more. In real-world use, the difference between UFS 4.0 and UFS 4.1 will be negligible. The Galaxy S26 Ultra will feel just as fast, if not faster, when moving data around, than the Galaxy S25 Ultra.
Retaining the same UFS standard of storage may have saved Samsung some money in producing the Galaxy S26 Ultra. Some of the other components, however, have gone up in price leading to an overall price increase across the lineup.
