With Galaxy S26 series’ incremental camera upgrades, Samsung hints at more meaningful hardware improvements for Galaxy S27 lineup

The Galaxy S26 series was just unveiled and in line with previous leaks, they come with only minor improvements to the camera hardware. Samsung has focused more on the software for its flagship series once again, which may be a dealbreaker for some potential Galaxy S26 buyers. However, the next generation may be the one were Samsung makes more significant hardware level improvements, or so it seems.
Speaking at a roundtable, Android Authority asked Samsung executives about the lack of focus on meaningful camera improvements year over year. Executive Vice President Joshua Cho responded and said, “We are always, constantly thinking about what would be the best combination at a given time. So, in the future there would also be new combinations of hardware and software, so I ask for your patience and attention.”
While not confirming or mentioning the Galaxy S27 series, Cho ensured that Samsung is still working on bringing major camera improvements. More than just software tuning, the company is still working on improving the hardware, at least for its flagships.
Does that mean if you were going to upgrade to the Galaxy S26 series, you should wait till next year? Possibly. But there’s no guarantee that the Galaxy S27 series will come with said upgrades. With that in mind, the Galaxy S26 Ultra does improve on the aperture for the primary and the telescope cameras. On top of that, the Privacy Display feature seems pretty robust and significant.
