Samsung's Galaxy Unpacked event is now less than a week away. Scheduled for July 9, the event is expected to host the Galaxy Z Fold7, Galaxy Z Flip7, and the more affordable Galaxy Z Flip FE. On top of that, Samsung is also expected to unveil the Galaxy Watch8 in two sizes, the Galaxy Watch8 Classic, and a Galaxy Watch Ultra 2025 Edition as its premium wearables for the second half of 2025 and early 2026.
However, the spotlight is anticipated to quickly shift to Samsung's long-rumoured tri-folding smartphone. Speculation about a Huawei Mate XT-style foldable has been growing in recent weeks, particularly after animations showing the unreleased device were spotted in One UI 8 code. According to PandaFlashPro, the name 'Galaxy G Fold' may not be the one by which Samsung intends to market the device.
According to the leaker, Samsung could adopt 'Ultra' branding for its tri-fold device to distinguish it from its regular book-style foldables like the Galaxy Z Fold6. As a result, we may see the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra or Galaxy Fold Ultra arriving to complement Samsung's existing foldable line-up while aligning with its premium Galaxy S Ultra series.
Based on recent reports, Samsung will begin mass producing its tri-fold in September 2025, ahead of a full launch before the end of the year. Potentially though, there is a chance that the Galaxy Z Fold Ultra may appear at next week's Galaxy Unpacked like the Galaxy S25 Edge (curr. $1,055 on Amazon) did in January. Unfortunately, Samsung is expected to limit the distribution of its first tri-fold to just China and South Korea, just as it did last year with the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition.
