Samsung's tri-fold could be unveiled this month as yet another leak hints at end of September event

For several months, leaks and rumors about Samsung’s tri-fold phone have been doing the rounds. While the company has confirmed its existence and shown that it is in the pipeline, a release date has not been associated to it. Now, following a few similar leaks, another known leaker has stated the phone could be unveiled at an Unpacked event planned for late September.

The latest leak comes courtesy of credible leaker Ice Universe on Weibo who claims that the Galaxy Z TriFold or Galaxy G Fold will be unveiled in South Korea on September 29. It is unclear at this point what the phone will be officially called. The company is reportedly hosting an Unpacked event on the date in its home country where it will not only unveil the new foldable but also its Project Moohan MR headset and AI-enabled Galaxy Glasses.

This isn’t the first time the September 29 date has been mentioned. Max Jambor from Germany as well as leaks coming out of South Korea hinted at an Unpacked event on September 29 where the foldable was said to be unveiled. The Galaxy Glasses mentioned by Ice Universe, however, are new additions to the list.

Recently, a set of animations showing the Samsung tri-fold surfaced online demoing the wireless charging, reverse wireless charging, and NFC features. They also revealed how the phone will fold. The left third of the display will fold on to the middle section and these two sections will then fold on to the right third. Another animation showed the back of the Galaxy Z TriFold in its unfolded state with a selfie camera cutout in the middle section. This is the section that will become the front when the phone is folded all the way.

As for pricing, the Galaxy Z TriFold will of course be an expensive offering and reports claim a possible price tag of over 4 million KRW, which is around $2,900. With Samsung looking to launch it first tri-fold phone, Huawei is gearing up to launch its second one, the Mate XTs, on September 9.
