Once again, South Korean manufacturer Samsung's latest Galaxy Z Fold 7 advertising video makes fun of the fact that Apple still does not have a foldable in its portfolio. It also alludes to the iPhone's lack of versatility as a hands-free device.

Samsung has once again launched a provocative advertising campaign, once again taking direct aim at Apple. The company is taking advantage of the upcoming launch of the Apple iPhone 17 series to highlight the unique capabilities of its foldable smartphones, such as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7.

Samsung releases provocative Galaxy Z Fold 7 video

A few days ago, Samsung published a short promotional clip on X (formerly Twitter), which is already attracting a lot of attention prior to Apple's presentation on September 9. The message is clear: Samsung's foldable devices offer more than classic smartphones.

The thirty-second spot depicts an everyday scene in which an iPhone user places his device on a table to watch a video. However, his cat repeatedly knocks over the Apple iPhone. The punchline follows when a friend places a Galaxy Z Fold 7 on the table, whose foldability allows it to stand on its own. Moreover, the display splits into two sections, allowing two videos to be played simultaneously. An on-screen animation then poses the provocative question: Can your phone do that?

In doing so, Samsung aims to portray its Fold and Flip models as particularly versatile. The devices feature modern hinges, slimmer housing and special software features such as Flex Mode, which allows them to be propped at different angles. Galaxy AI tools are also designed to make everyday life easier and open up new usage possibilities. While the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7 remains a premium product with a steep price tag, it also shows that Samsung has consistently improved the foldable form factor over the years. In contrast, Apple is yet to launch its own foldable device.

Apple still doesn't have an iFold

Rumor has it that Apple is working on a foldable device and is aiming for a possible market launch in 2026 at the earliest. But for now, Samsung is taking advantage of its current technological leadership. The commercial is humorously staged, but conveys a clear message at the same time: Foldable devices have long been suitable for everyday use and offer functions that classic smartphones cannot. Hence, the rivalry between Samsung and Apple remains a driving force of innovation.
