The Galaxy Z Fold7 costs $1,899 at the least on Amazon today (September 2, 2025), but that did not stop Zach Nelson opening his latest YouTube video with the cutting-edge foldable Samsung flagship dismembered and on fire.
In fairness to the JerryRigEverything host, the other main end to his goal involved a ~$20,000 XRF spectrometer in order to confirm that the Z Fold7 does indeed contain titanium on the inside.
Samsung asserts that it is found in an internal backplate for additional structural rigidity, as well as a mesh for increased flexibility.
Nelson did indeed find that the former exhibited the hallmark, almost oil slick-like pattern formed by oxidation in the presence of a flame, while the latter was immolated in a small shower of white sparks.
The vlogger did find fault with some things inside the Z Fold7, most notably the paucity of cooling solutions.
The new flagship did have enough thermal paste to draw a little smiley face in, although Nelson still criticized an air-gap found between the device's anodized aluminum mid-frame and the graphite on the processor.
Then again, the possibility of removing the Z Fold7's main 8-inch Dynamic LTPO AMOLED 2X display in 1 piece and still on was also demonstrated, although trying to separate some of its layers might still cause it to die.
It will be interesting to see if the inaugural Samsung tri-fold will have the same potential for reparability on its supposedly upcoming debut.
