The Suunto Race 2 was recently spotted at a certification event and accidentally listed on Amazon Spain a few days ago. The online store was quick to remove the product page, but not before Gadgets & Wearables was able to share key details from the store listing. At first glance, the design barely appears to have barely changed, as Suunto has only reworked the texture of the bezel and the digital crown.
The case diameter remains unchanged at 49 millimeters, but the case is slightly thinner, measuring 12.5 millimeters instead of 13.3. The composite version will also be slightly lighter, weighing 65 grams, and the smartwatch will be available with either a 76-gram steel case or a titanium case. Suunto is said to have redesigned the sensor array on the back and introduced a new charger.
Suunto continues to install a round AMOLED display. Multi-band GPS is intended to record the distance covered during running with a high degree of accuracy. The smartwatch is said to achieve a battery life of 50 hours with continuous use of the GPS module. In regular smartwatch mode, Suunto advertises a battery life of twelve days, four days less than the previous model. The shorter battery life is likely due to the more powerful Ambiq Apollo 510 processor.
The smartwatch supports 115 sport modes, including swimming, cycling and skiing. In conjunction with the Suunto Wing headphones, users can receive voice feedback during a workout. The Suunto Race 2 is scheduled to launch in early September. The top-of-the-line model with a titanium case was listed on Amazon for €599.
