RG Vita: YouTuber reveals new details about PS Vita-inspired gaming handheld

Popular YouTuber The Phawx has shared additional insights into the RG Vita, just days after the device officially debuted alongside the RG Vita Pro. At this stage, Anbernic has not published any technical details for either handheld yet, let alone full specifications sheets.
However, The Phawx has already been able to confirm the RG Vita's chipset. Writing on X, the YouTuber reports that the standard RG Vita leverages the Unisoc Tiger T618 rather than newer options like the Tiger T820 or the Dimensity 8300. Built on a 12 nm process, the Tiger T618 combines two ARM Cortex-A75 performance cores and six Cortex-A55 efficiency cores that can all run at 2 GHz. A Mali-G52 MP2 GPU is on hand too, although this can boost to just 850 MHz when needed.
In practical terms, the Tiger T618 places the RG Vita among older handhelds released in 2023. For instance, the Tiger T618 also underpins the Powkiddy X28, Retroid Pocket Flip and the Retroid Pocket 3+. Closer to home, the Tiger T618 can already be found inside the RG405V and RG405M (curr. $169.99 on Amazon).
Ultimately, the RG Vita will not be powerful enough to emulate the very system upon which it draws its name and inspiration. Moreover, The Phawx noted his disappointment over the lack of a traditional Vita-style d-pad. Still, the appearance of review units at this stage suggests that global RG Vita and RG Vita Pro releases will occur before the end of the month.
