Alongside the Linux-based Slimbook Executive laptop, the brand has also introduced a new mini PC, dubbed the Slimbook One. Powered by up to a 12-core AMD Strix Point APU, the mini PC should be able to conquer moderately intensive workloads. Moreover, FOSS enthusiasts will be pleased to note that the system also ships with Linux out of the box.
AMD Zen 5-powered APU for high-end performance
At its heart, the Slimbook One mini PC is powered by up to the AMD Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU with 12 cores based on the Zen 5 architecture, and comes equipped with up to 128 GB of DDR5-5600 memory courtesy of dual SO-DIMM slots. A lower-end variant with the respectable 8-core Ryzen 7 H 255 APU based on Zen 4 will also be available, and should pull off roughly 85% of its pricier sibling's performance, as indicated by synthetic CPU benchmarks.
The tiny mini PC lacks room for internal discrete graphics, and relies on the Radeon 780M and Radeon 890M iGPUs, found in the Zen 4 and Zen 5 variants respectively. The 890M should be around 20% to 30% faster than the 780M in gaming, which can be verified using our test results. Being an iGPU, however, both the chips should only be powerful enough for casual gaming and lightweight workloads.
For heavier workloads and high-end gaming, customers can opt for powerful eGPU setups by utilizing the mini PC's OCuLink port. The Strix Point variant also ships with a 50 TOPS NPU, while the Hawk Point variant gets no such thing. The I/O on offer is quite respectable, and packs the following ports:
- Dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-A, dual USB 2.0 Type-A
- Dual USB4 Type-C
- HDMi 2.1, DisplayPort 2.0
- OCuLink
- Dual 2.5G Ethernet
- 3.5 mm audio
- WiFi 6 (optional WiFi 7), Bluetooth 5.2
Storage requirements are handled by dual M.2 2280 (PCIe 4.0 x4) slots, accommodating a maximum 16 TB of solid-state storage. At 130 x 158 x 53 mm, the Slimbook One mini PC is quite compact as well, and tips the scales at just around 0.7 kg or 1.5 lbs.
Pricing and availability
The Slimbook One mini PC is already available for purchase, priced at $699 and $999 for the AMD Ryzen 7 H 255 and Ryzen AI 9 HX 370-equipped variants respectively, both packing 16 GB of DDR5-5600 memory and a 500 GB NVMe SSD. Both variants are currently rocking a $50 discount, likely an introductory promotion.
Clearly, the One mini PC is set to bring competition to the GMK Evo-X1, the Minisforum AI X1 Pro, and the Beelink SER9 Pro (currently $930 on Amazon). That said, whether or not the product is worthy of its price tag, can only be stated once it reaches reviewers' hands.
