AMD has just updated its Strix Halo series with new options. Nonetheless, various sources have already obtained information about an alleged Gorgon Halo refresh that AMD will land before the end of 2026.

Less than a month has passed since AMD refreshed its Strix Halo architecture with two new APUs. Marketed as the Ryzen AI Max+ 388 and the Ryzen AI Max+ 392, the refresh effectively brings AMD's powerful Radeon 8060S iGPU to those who do not need the 16 CPU cores and 32 threads that the Ryzen AI Max+ 395 provides in devices like the ROG Flow Z13 and the GMKtec EVO-X2 (curr. $1,659.99 on Amazon), among others.

Despite this refresh only occurring during CES 2026, details of a supposed second refresh have emerged via various sources. Initially, VideoCardz claimed to have received word that AMD was developing Ryzen AI Max 400 APUs under the Gorgon Halo codename. Subsequently, HKEPC claims that AMD intends to launch five Ryzen AI Max 400 APUs called the Ryzen AI Max 485, Ryzen AI Max+ 488, Ryzen AI Max 490, Ryzen AI Max+ 492 and the Ryzen AI Max+ 495:

AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 495

  • OPN:100-000002145
  • CPU:16C/32T(3.1 GHz/5.2 GHz)
  • GPU:Radeon 8060S(3.0 GHz)
  • TDP: 55 W

AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 492

  • OPN:100-000002143
  • CPU:12C/24T(3.2 GHz/5 GHz)
  • GPU:Radeon 8060S(2.9 GHz)
  • TDP: 55 W

AMD Ryzen AI Max 490

  • OPN:100-000002142
  • CPU:12C/24T(3.2 GHz/5 GHz)
  • GPU:Radeon 8050S(2.8 GHz)
  • TDP: 55 W

AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 488

  • OPN:100-000002140
  • CPU:8C/16T(3.6 GHz/5 GHz)
  • GPU:Radeon 8060S(2.9 GHz
  • TDP: 55 W

AMD Ryzen AI Max 485

  • OPN:100-000002127
  • CPU:8C/16T(3.6 GHz/5 GHz)
  • GPU:Radeon 8050S(2.8 GHz)
  • TDP: 55 W

Like the Ryzen AI 400 'Gorgon Point' APUs before it, the Ryzen AI Max 400 APUs were said to surpass their Ryzen AI Max 300 predecessors with raised CPU and iGPU clock speeds. If the Ryzen AI 400 series is anything to go by, then Ryzen AI Max 400 processors support faster RAM than the LPDDR5X-8000 limit of the Ryzen AI Max 300 series.

Of those five, only the Ryzen AI Max+ 495 is reported to have gained 100 MHz boost clock increases on its Zen 5 CPU cores and Radeon 8060S iGPU cores. Reportedly, AMD intends to launch the Ryzen AI Max 400 series between October and December 2026. However, it seems that the image shown on HKEPC's website of a Ryzen AI Max 400 APU has been faked, with the digits '2127' seemingly superimposed over a different part number. Thus, we would treat the specifics of its report with some scepticism for now.
