An update for the Philips Hue app has been released. With version 5.49, users get a new scene-related feature which could come in handy when setting up a new automation or accessory like a smart light switch. Currently only available for some Philips Hue customers, it is expected to roll out more widely in the near future.

Philips Hue is rolling out another update for its smartphone apps. Version 5.49 arrives about a fortnight after the last release, which added tailored scene recommendations and a refreshed Hue logo.

With Philips Hue app version 5.49, there is a new feature for the setup process for automations. It is also found when users add a new accessory, like the Hue Smart Dimmer Switch (curr. $22.99 at Amazon). Now, users have the ability to choose to preview their selected scene on their smartlights before it is saved. This can be configured using the ‘Show preview’ toggle at the bottom of the scene selection page of the setup process (shown below).

This appears to be the only change with the version 5.49 release. However, the brand’s new AI Assistant should be arriving in more countries worldwide by the end of August 2025. You can now download the Philips Hue app version 5.49 for iOS from the Apple App Store. It has yet to appear at the Google Play Store; the version for Android users will likely be released in the next couple of days.
