Next year's battle between the Vivo X300 Ultra, Oppo Find X9 Ultra and Xiaomi 16 Ultra is gearing up to be very exciting. More and more details are emerging about the upcoming Zeiss, Leica and Hasselblad camera flagships, suggesting very different approaches to the "Best Smartphone Camera of 2026" question.

Three camera flagships, three completely different philosophies. The Oppo Find X8 Ultra, Vivo X200 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 Ultra already demonstrate how different high-end smartphone cameras can be. 2026 is likely to reinforce this trend even further, judging from what leakers such as Digital Chat Station have revealed recently. A recent Weibo post about the Oppo Find X9 Ultra, for example, is once again based on an early prototype, meaning that some specs may still change before the launch.

Oppo Find X9 Ultra

According to earlier reports from Digital Chat Station, Oppo has been experimenting with both a triple and a quad-camera setup for the successor to the Find X8 Ultra, but it is still unclear which will ultimately prevail. The latest prototype is based on the previously mentioned 1/1.1-inch Sony sensor with 200 MP, the largest to date and the first from Japan, as Samsung has dominated this segment to date. This flagship sensor, designated IMX09E, is said to be complemented by a 50 MP Sony LYT-828 as a 3x periscope telephoto lens and to offer telemacro functionality. Combined with the latest leak about the Oppo Find X9 Ultra camera, we can also expect a 50 MP 6x periscope telephoto lens and a 50 MP ultrawide-angle lens.

Vivo X300 Ultra

Vivo, on the other hand, is likely to be the first manufacturer to actually install two 200MP sensors in the Vivo X300 Ultra. According to Digital Chat Station, Vivo will remain the only one to do so for the foreseeable future. While the new Sony 200 MP sensor may also be used as the main camera, Vivo is sticking with the 200 MP 1/1.4-inch periscope telephoto sensor, or rather, further enhancing it with a new ISOCELL HPB sensor, as official teasers for the Oppo Find X9 Pro have already confirmed. Whether the larger ultra-wide angle and the 35mm main camera will also remain is unclear.

Xiaomi 16 Ultra

Previous leaks have already revealed a lot about the Xiaomi 16 Ultra. This is apparently where the biggest changes are happening, as the quad-camera setup will be replaced by a triple-camera setup, albeit based on three entirely new sensors. Xiaomi is also the only manufacturer that plans to keep offering a 1-inch main camera in 2026, combining it with a 200 MP periscope telephoto lens. For the first time, Xiaomi may not be alone on the global market in 2026, as either the Oppo Find X9 Ultra or the Vivo X300 Ultra may launch outside of China for the first time, at least according to rumors.
