OnePlus Strix G15 game controller to get support for other OnePlus smartphones

Alongside the Ace 6 Ultra, OnePlus also announced a unique controller that turns the smartphone into an Android handheld. OnePlus has now confirmed that the controller, which is called the Strix G15, will be compatible with other select OnePlus phones. The announcement reveals the phones that will be supported and when it will happen.

The info comes from the product page on the Oppo Shop website. According to the description, the Strix G15 currently only works with the OnePlus Ace 6 Ultra. However, starting in June, the controller will be compatible with additional OnePlus smartphones. The list of devices that will get support for the Strix G15 include the OnePlus 15, OnePlus Ace 6, OnePlus Ace 6T, and the OnePlus Turbo 6. While not stated, these devices will most likely need a software update to work properly with the controller.

If you are wondering how the OnePlus Strix G15 game controller is able to work with the aforementioned smartphones considering their different sizes, that is because it is a telescopic controller. This means it can extend to fit a larger device much like several mobile controllers on the market. 

However, what sets the OnePlus Strix G15 apart from the competition is its design. Unlike other controllers such as the 8BitDo Ultimate Mobile Controller (curr. available on Amazon for $41.98) which have a D-Pad, ABXY buttons, and thumbsticks to name a few, the Strix G15 only has four buttons, and they are on the back of the device. These buttons are the L1, R1, L2, and R2, and they are equivalent to the bumper and trigger buttons on a standard controller. For the rest of the controls, users will have to use touch input.

The OnePlus Strix G15 controller connects to a supported smartphone via USB-C. It has support for passthrough charging, a slot for the OnePlus 40W Super Freezing Point Magnetic Cooler, and a built-in antenna to enhance connection when playing online games. It also has a 1,000Hz polling rate and a 1.8ms response time.

Priced at ¥449 (~$66/€56) and available in white, the OnePlus Strix G15 will be facing stiff competition from third party controllers which have more features and cost less. There's also no info about a global release.
