Made in Germany: Volla Phone Plinius launches for €598 with modular battery

German smartphone manufacturer Volla has unveiled two new, particularly robust mid-range smartphones. The Volla Phone Plinius and the Volla Phone Plinius Plus are practically identical except for the memory and the back with pogo pins on the top model. With a flat frame and an slim bezels around the OLED display, the smartphone offers a modern design.
The body is IP68-certified and therefore waterproof. The smartphone is said to be relatively shock-resistant and ships with a high-quality screen protector and a replaceable back cover. The 5,300 mAh battery can also be replaced in a few simple steps. Charging is either via USB-C with 30 watts or wirelessly with 15 watts. However, the modular, robust design results in a relatively thick 10.5 millimetre body, and at 230 grams, the Volla Phone Plinius is comparatively heavy.
The smartphone is officially "Made in Germany", although most of the components are likely to be imported. The mid-range smartphone has a 6.67-inch OLED display with a resolution of 2,400 x 1,080 pixels, a frame rate of 120 Hz and a brightness of 1,000 nits. The fingerprint sensor is integrated into the display. Volla installs a MediaTek Dimensity 7300, a 64 MP f/1.79 main camera and an 8 MP f/2.2 ultra-wide-angle camera.
