OnePlus brings handheld gaming to high-end Android smartphone with new release

The gap between gaming handhelds and tablets has narrowed significantly in recent years. Previously, gaming handhelds were mainly Linux or Windows-based. However, Ayaneo, GPD and others have embraced Android as an operating system for some handhelds, as with the recent Konkr Pocket Fit (curr. $399 on Amazon).
At the same time, Lenovo has been offering accessories for multiple generations that transform its compact gaming tablets into gaming handheld lookalikes. Now, OnePlus has gotten in on the act with the Strix G15 controller for the Ace 6 Ultra smartphone. Also launched today, the Ace 6 Ultra remains exclusive to China for now.
As the image above and below show, OnePlus new controller connects directly to the Ace 6 Ultra’s USB port. Encasing the phone entirely, the Strix G15 includes a USB Type-C port too for pass-through charging purposes. Also, OnePlus has integrated a set of triggers, which should sit beneath one’s index fingers, thanks to ergonomic grips.
The Strix G15 comes with a pair of secondary buttons too, which OnePlus hopes will be in the perfect position for one’s index fingers. The controller lacks any face buttons though, let alone a joystick or a dpad. OnePlus has also included a cutout for adding its new magnetic cooler, launch details of which we have covered separately. The Strix G15 is available in China for CNY 449 (~$65). OnePlus has not revealed international launch plans yet, though.
