Steam Machine release still planned for 2026: Two clues give fans new hope

Long silence, no price, no release date: many fans had recently assumed that Valve’s Steam Machine might not arrive until 2027. However, Reddit user u/Kaijurassic has now pointed to two clues that may have been overlooked amid Steam Controller news and the supply chain debate, giving fans renewed hope that the launch of the Steam Machine may not be as far away as previously thought.
The first clue comes from the Steam backend. According to Brad Lynch, also known as SadlyItsBradley, Valve is reportedly still maintaining new “packages” for the Steam Machine and Steam Frame there. Such entries can point to different sales variants, bundles, regional versions or internal store preparations. While this is not proof of an imminent release, it does at least show that Valve is apparently still actively preparing the devices.
The second clue comes from a recent IGN interview with Valve developer Pierre-Loup Griffais. According to him, the Steam Machine is likely largely finished. At the moment, the main focus is apparently on actually getting the hardware into users’ hands. Against this backdrop, it could possibly be “only” logistics issues that are slowing down the launch, rather than the persistently high RAM prices, for which no relief is currently in sight.
On Reddit, many users now feel that the Steam Machine may be close to launch rather than being pushed back to 2027. However, there are also arguments against this. Valve hardware engineer Steve Cardinali told Polygon that the Steam Controller is only launching before the Steam Machine because it does not depend on RAM. That, in turn, indirectly confirms that RAM prices do play a role in the Steam Machine’s delayed launch..
As long as Valve does not announce a delay, hopes that the living-room PC could still launch this year are likely to remain. So far, Valve continues to list 2026 as the release window.
