For gamers who enjoy ARPGs like Diablo or Path of Exile, Torchlight is almost a must-play. It is a bit more light-hearted and less dark, but offers a similarly addictive gameplay loop. Torchlight II is currently available on Steam with an 80% discount for $3.99 instead of $19.99, which according to SteamDB is its lowest price to date. For anyone who has not played the predecessor yet: it is also currently discounted by 80% on Steam and is available for around $3. Both titles are classified as “Playable” on the Steam Deck.

Torchlight II is significantly larger and more open than its predecessor, but remains a classic action RPG focused on fast loot and endless hordes of monsters. The basic gameplay loop is simple: enter the dungeon, defeat everything in your path and collect increasingly powerful gear. In typical Torchlight fashion, you are always accompanied by a pet, such as a dog, a cat or even a ferret, which not only fights alongside you but also takes care of tedious tasks like selling loot. You can choose from four different classes, create your own hero and explore a large open world with towns, dungeons and randomly generated areas. On top of that, Torchlight II offers a strong co-op mode and extensive mod support.

In its review, German gaming magazine GameStar praised Torchlight II above all for its strong motivational loop of fast-paced combat, loot and level-ups. Anyone who enjoys addictive games should get their money’s worth here. However, the story is rather shallow and the difficulty could be a bit more challenging, which is why the game received 85 out of 100 points overall. On Steam, around 45,000 user reviews have been submitted so far, 92% of which are positive. On Metacritic, Torchlight II has a Metascore of 88 and a User Score of 8.4.
