Details here
Minisforum markets the Venus series as compact mini PCs for everyday office use. However, these compact computing companions are continually equipped with powerful processors. In addition, in the past, Minisforum excelled with premium cases and good cooling systems. Likewise, with the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245, we are reviewing a compact mini PC that, in terms of price, is even significantly more attractive. Anyone for whom the Minisforum Venus Series NAB6 is too expensive will find a good alternative in the form of the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245. Although, you will have to accept compromises with the manufacturer opting against a metal case and Thunderbolt.
As with many of the Minisforum devices, the Venus Series UN1245 is also available as a barebone option without RAM and an SSD. As the name would suggest, an Intel Core i5-12450H is at work under the hood. The version without RAM and an SSD currently changes hands for $310. Anyone desiring an Intel Core i7-12650H will have to fork out an additional $70. Our review sample is fitted with 16 GB of DDR4 RAM and a 512 GB SSD. However, in the store, there is no option with these specs. Currently, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 with 32 GB of RAM and a 512 GB SSD costs around $429 meaning our review device should be priced just below this.
Compact and inexpensive mini PCs make up the comparison devices in this review. These can be found in the following table.

Case - Plastic instead of aluminum
In order to reduce manufacturing costs and guarantee a low purchase price, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245's case is made from plastic. Color-wise, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 is mostly silver with black elements present on the rear of the device. The base is also completely black. When it comes to stability, we were unable to discern any serious weaknesses. Visually, the device is well-built, although, compared to the Minisforum Venus Series NAB6, the haptic experience suffers somewhat. In terms of space, these two machines make no compromises and at 12.9 × 12.8 centimeters, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 continues to be a compact device. With the Mini IT11, Geekom shows that even smaller is possible.
In the area of weight, at 545 grams, our review sample belongs to the lightest in the comparison. Only the Geekom Mini IT11 is a few grams lighter. Anyone wishing to fix the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 to monitor can do so with the help of a mounting plate (VESA mount). The necessary accessories can be found in the box.
Features - A good selection but without Thunderbolt
Basically, when it comes to external interfaces, there can be no complaints. The Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 offers a solid selection with many USB ports which can be found on the front and rear. Monitors can be connected via HDMI, DisplayPort or USB-C. The latter can also be used to supply the device with power. Anyone in possession of a monitor that has a Power Delivery function will save themselves an additional cable.
Communication
We are already familiar with the installed Mediathek RZ608 Wi-Fi module as it can be found in many of Minisforum's mini PCs. In principle, the radio module delivers adequate performance, however, by comparison, its peers are frequently better, albeit not to any serious degree. But, it's worth pointing out that using a 6 GHz frequency band doesn't result in better transfer speeds. In return, in our test, we recorded relatively stable transfer speeds without any dips in performance. For the test, we used our Asus ROG Rapture GT-AXE11000 test router. As an alternative, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 offers two fast wired connections which allow for speeds of up to 2.5 GBit/s.
Accessories
In addition to the device, the box contents include a 90-watt PSU as well as a mounting plate to fit the computer to a monitor (VESA mount). An HDMI cable and a quick guide are also included.
Maintenance
Since Minisforum also sells the Venus Series UN1245 as a barebone variant, it goes without saying that you have to access the internals in order to install RAM or an SSD. To achieve this, the base has to be removed. This can be done by removing the screws which are found underneath the rubber feet. Anyone wishing to clean the CPU fan will have to dismantle the device a little more. However, we would advise against disassembling the cooling system since Minisforum uses liquid metal in order to guarantee optimum heat dissipation. Internally, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 offers space for two SO DIMM modules and two mass storage devices.
Performance - Alder Lake-H with 8 cores and 12 threads
With the Intel Core i5-12450H, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 offers a good SoC but one that doesn't belong to the most up-to-date models. In everyday use, we don't envisage any problems because 8 cores and 12 threads mean the SoC is also able to handle demanding tasks. An identical model that Minisforum markets as the Venus Series UN1265 offers somewhat more power with its Intel Core i7-12650H.
Test conditions
All the performance tests were carried out using the highest performance
energy profile. The SoC's performance was not altered in the BIOS and was left in accordance with the manufacturer's factory settings. Differing energy profiles were used in the noise emission and energy measurements as defined in our test criteria.
Processor
With the Intel Core i5-12450H, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 offers a speedy SoC that has eight native computational cores at its disposal and is able to process a total of 12 threads simultaneously. However, in the test, we observed that our review sample is placed behind the Acemagic AD15. The reason for this became quickly apparent because Minisforum limits the Intel Core i5-12450H's power consumption to only 45 watts. Nevertheless, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 has no need to hide since the processor's performance is more than sufficient in everyday situations. The good, single-core performance is not affected by this limitation. Anyone interested in the structurally identical Minisforum Venus Series UN1265 should look to the Minisforum Venus Series NAB6 for orientation.
Additional comparisons and benchmarks can be found in our CPU comparison table.

Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 vs. Cinebench R15 Multi Loop
During the Cinebench R15 continuous loop, we took a look at the SoC's behaviour over a longer period of time. The Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 completed all 50 runs without a drop in performance. Here you can clearly see that the Minisforum doesn't grant the Intel Core i5-12450H more than 45 watts. Also in terms of temperatures, you can see that the SoC only heats up gradually and reaches a maximum of just 72 °C.
System performance
The Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 coped with the system performance-related synthetic benchmarks very well. However, it was not enough to claim the top spot since the Minisforum Venus Series NAB6 almost consistently demonstrated better performance here. The Morefine, with its M600 660U, is also serious competition. On top of that, the Morefine M600 6600U is fitted with faster RAM (DDR5) as shown by the AIDA64 tests. From a purely subjective point of view, the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245's system performance is good and not noticeably worse than the competing devices.

DPC latencies
We didn't observe increased latencies in the Minisforum Venus Series UN1245. Either when opening multiple tabs in Edge or during our 4K test video playback, our review device coped, hands down. This makes the UN1245 perfectly suitable as a streaming client for high-resolution videos.

Mass storage
Minisforum has installed a Kingston 512 GB NVMe SSD in the Venus Series UN1245. Minisforum also equips some of its other mini PCs with this model and we were already impressed by its performance in the Minisforum Venus Series NAB6. In our review sample, we observed better performance which means the UN1245 is almost certainly better in the benchmarks. However, in everyday use, the SSD's performance is rather second-rate. Nevertheless, we welcome the manufacturer making the step towards opting for solid, wonderfully performing SSDs which previously achieved good results. In terms of cooling, Minisforum took a new direction with the NAB6, installing a cooler that included a small fan. However, with our Minisforum Venus Series UN1245, we're faced with a conventional passive cooler, once again. This is not sufficient in order to keep the SSD's performance stable under continuous load.
The Minisforum Venus Series UN1245 can be equipped with a total of two mass storage devices. In addition to the NVMe SSD, there is also still room in the device for a 2.5-inch mass storage. But, attention must be paid to the maximum height of seven millimeters.
