Walmart is now stocking a wide range of MSI laptops ready to ship starting from $800 all the way up to $3000. MSI was one of the many major OEMs last month who announced the availability of laptops equipped with both 9th gen Intel CPUs and GeForce GTX 16 GPUs.
The most affordable option is the 15.6-inch MSI GL63 with the Core i5-9300H CPU and GTX 1650 GPU. Perhaps most surprising is its primary 512 GB NVMe SSD instead of the usual mechanical storage. When Nvidia launched its mobile RTX series, for example, the cheapest RTX 2060 laptop at the time was also the MSI GL63 for $1500 albeit it shipped with a much slower 1 TB HDD.
Move up a step and you'll get the 17.3-inch MSI GL73 with the Core i7-9750H and GTX 1660 Ti GPU for $1500 USD. This configuration quadruples the DDR4 RAM of the above GL63 from 8 GB to 32 GB while keeping the same 512 GB NVMe SSD.
The most expensive configuration leapfrogs the GTX 16 series for the RTX 2080 GPU at a price of $3200. It's disappointing that the CPU remains the same as the above GL73 instead of offering an unlocked Core i9.
The fast nationwide availability of these MSI systems is notable because most other OEMs like Asus, Razer, Gigabyte, and Dell have not yet begun shipping their Intel 9th gen gaming laptops or are only shipping in limited quantities at the moment. Expect our reviews on many of these configurations in the coming weeks and months.
