Infinix 720° SphereTech NFC Technology debuts to bring more flexible contactless functions to next-gen smartphones
On-device NFC is one of those things that can make the world's tech a little more magical and a lot more convenient - when it deigns to work.
The self-styled "trendy tech brand crafted for young consumers" Infinix claims to have figured out how to make it less particular and exacting when it encounters other compatible electronics in the wild (or even the home) with its new SphereTech Technology.
Infinix claims to have patented this new form of NFC for mobile devices with 2x the typical range and a 'target' surface area enlarged by 200%.
It is also touted to allow the device to detect cards, terminals or readers from the front or side as well as from the back as usual, and to do things such as tap and pay at more random angles for the first time.
720° SphereTech NFC-equipped devices should also support features such as the ability to turn the function off remotely in the event of theft.
It is also backed to give the OEM more flexibility when placing the chip in a given device and to make the "new standard for NFC technology" compatible with more build materials - although the brand did not mention which ones.
Similarly, Infinix has announced that 720° SphereTech NFC tech will debut in "upcoming devices", but has yet to specify which ones, and whether they might debut in 2024 or not.
