Poly Voyager Surround 85 UC debut as work-friendly over-ear headphones with NFC charging

The Poly Voyager Surround 85 UC are new Bluetooth headphones that the user can charge simply by placing them on their custom stand. It is powered by NuCurrent NuSync technology to power up via a "unique" near-field communication (NFC) system. The Surround 85 UC headset also supports adaptive ANC and is rated for up to 21 hours of use.

Plantronics is back - well, sort of, having re-branded to Poly and having been bought out by HP. Since then, it has released the Voyager Free 60 series ("your next work buds"), boasting the "fastest wireless charging Qi-certified case" of their category.

Poly has now followed those TWS earbuds up with the Voyager Surround 85 UC, a pair of Bluetooth headphones pitched at enterprise environments with a potentially workflow-friendly "effortless docking" mechanism using its stand, which also doubles as its charger.

That feature is conferred by the NuCurrent NuSync system, a form of NFC that can support "106kbps of bi-directional data" as well as up-to-1.8W of power delivery. The adaptive ANC-enabled Voyager Surround 85 UC's 1,100mAh battery is rated for "up to 21 hours of talk-time", and can also use USB type-C (but not a 3.5mm jack).

The new business-class headset will be available alongside its non-NuSync Surround 85 variant from October 13, 2023 via poly.com.
