Gears of War: E-Day pre-orders go live with August multiplayer dates

The Coalition and Xbox Game Studios have opened pre-orders for Gears of War: E-Day and provided further details on next month's multiplayer open beta. Serving as a dark, gritty prequel set fourteen years before the original 2006 classic, the game takes players back to the absolute beginning of the Locust invasion through the eyes of younger versions of Marcus Fenix and Dominic Santiago.
With the global launch scheduled for October 6, 2026, on Xbox Series X|S and PC, players won't have to wait until autumn to get their first taste of the action. Anyone who pre-orders any edition of the game or maintains an active Xbox Game Pass subscription will secure early access to the multiplayer Open Beta, which officially kicks off from August 6 through August 10, 2026.
Early access and pre-order rewards
In addition to securing a spot in the August beta, all pre-orders come bundled with exclusive digital cosmetics, including the "Exfil Dom" Legendary Character Skin (usable in Versus and the new Horde Siege co-op mode) alongside the matching Exfil Legendary Weapon Skin Set. For digital buyers, beta and skin access are automatically tied to their account, while physical buyers should expect to receive redemption codes at the point of purchase from participating retailers.
Pricing and special editions
Xbox has outlined three distinct tiers for the release:
- Standard Edition ($69.99): Includes the base game and the standard pre-order bonuses.
- Premium Edition: Adds the Emergence Customization Pack, four upcoming seasonal cosmetic drops, 1,000 Iron, and a campaign-only weapon pack. Crucially, it unlocks 5 days of early access to the full campaign starting October 1, 2026.
- Collector’s Edition ($299.99): Built for hardcore fans, this massive physical package features an illuminating 15-inch statue of Marcus and Dom, a 1:1 scale metal replica of Carlos Santiago's COG tags, an art print, and a custom SteelBook case. Like the Premium Edition, it includes the 5-day early play advantage.
Survival horror tension
Built from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5, Gears of War: E-Day is expected to re-establish the series' signature survival-horror tension with modernized cover mechanics and brutal close-quarters combat... though this remains to be seen.
