With shipments arriving at retailers before the Switch 2 release date, an early unboxing video was inevitable. Indeed, the first known footage of the packaging's interior has surfaced. A YouTuber named a2dubai posted a seven-second clip (now removed but visible at Switch 2 subreddit) in which part of the console and Joy-Cons are visible. The individual also revealed that an update is necessary for the handheld to function.
Unfortunately, the video is brief and doesn't involve the poster removing any of the box's contents. When asked in the YouTube comments for more footage, a2dubai explained that he was waiting for June 5th. Apparently, a day-one patch will do more than activate microSD Express card support and 3D audio. Wario64, who shared the unboxing clip on social media, provided further clarification. The console's Home Menu may be accessible, but no original Switch or Switch 2 games will load.
Months before the Switch 2 release date, Nintendo failed to prevent mostly accurate leaks. Nevertheless, it's striving to keep gamers from using the console before its June 5th debut. Most reviewers also won't receive samples until the system is publicly available. Already, complaints are mounting that the company is shipping bricked consoles. It's unclear if the Switch 2 has any functionality outside of games without an internet connection.
Even with a short video, a2dubai is risking the wrath of Nintendo. The gaming giant aggressively files lawsuits against anyone who interrupts its release plans. Some fans expect similar Switch 2 leaks, with Target leaving stockpiles of locked-up consoles on floors. From the clues in the YouTube post, it appears that, true to his handle, the console originated from a Middle Eastern retailer.
