According to X0X_LEAK, a source known for accurate early info on games like Marvel Rivals, Arc System Works is developing a new fighting game exclusively for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2. In a post on X, the leaker claimed that the unannounced title is currently in the works and is planned for release on November 25, 2025 – roughly five months after the Switch 2’s expected launch on June 5. However, the leaker noted that the release date could still change.
Fighting game seems likely
The game, currently developed under the codename "Watari," is being built with Unreal Engine 5.4, hinting at a visually modern experience. While the leaker hasn't confirmed the genre, the choice of developer strongly points toward a fighting game. Arc System Works has long been a key player in the 2D fighting scene, with acclaimed titles like Guilty Gear Strive, Persona 4 Arena and Dragon Ball FighterZ – the latter already available on the current Nintendo Switch (available on Amazon for $353).
It’s still uncertain whether Watari is a brand-new fighting game or something more familiar. While the leaker describes it as a “new game,” Reddit users have pointed out that “Watari” means “crossing” in Japanese, which some see as a hint toward a port. Speculation ranges from a Switch-optimized version of Guilty Gear Strive or DNF Duel to more ambitious hopes for a crossover fighter featuring Nintendo characters – perhaps from franchises like Fire Emblem or Xenoblade.
Possible unveiling as early as June
According to Insider Gaming, Watari could be officially revealed as early as the Summer Game Fest in June 2025. A showcase at the event would align well with the planned fall release and help strengthen the Switch 2’s launch lineup.
