Nintendo has revealed that the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 will finally support a PIN-based locking system, which will address a long-standing user request for improved device security.
As previously reported, the Switch 2 is all set to launch globally on June 5. Along with several new features, the handheld console will also introduce the option to secure the console with a PIN code. Users will have to use the PIN while waking the console up from sleep mode, similar to smartphones, tablets, or even laptops.
The original Nintendo Switch relied on a rudimentary method that required players to press the same button three times. There was no actual password or PIN protection, unless using Parental Controls, which were more restrictive and designed for child supervision.
Here’s what you can expect from Switch 2's new security feature -
- PIN lock via System Settings without the need for the Parental Controls app.
- Activates on wake from sleep mode to prevent unauthorized access.
- At this moment, it is believed to be a standard 4-digit PIN, and customization options are not yet confirmed.
Nintendo announced this feature via a recent video on the Nintendo Today! app, alongside the reveal of other upgrades like Mouse Mode, which lets players use a cursor to navigate the UI more efficiently.
