Anbernic is due to start selling the RG34XX SP later this week. Arriving less than a month after the RG557, the company's latest clamshell gaming handheld arguably looks more like the Miyoo Flip or Flip V2 than the RG35XX SP (curr. $76.99 on Amazon).
Initially, there were suggestions that the RG34XX SP would be the first device to showcase a new chipset for Anbernic that would sit between the Rockchip RK3566 and Unisoc Tiger T618 in terms of performance. However, that did not come to pass, with Anbernic deciding to the Allwinner H700 once again.
The inclusion of an Allwinner H700 chipset and 2 GB of RAM means that the RG34XX SP will offer broadly the same gaming experience as the existing RG35XX SP, though. As it turns out, Anbernic may have originally planned to offer the RG34XX SP with a design much closer to that of the RG35XX SP.
If the leaked design below is accurate, then Anbernic originally considering releasing the RG34XX SP without joysticks. The design would seemingly have resulted in a shorter device too, and may explain unusually thick bezels of retail RG34XX SP units. Unfortunately, it seems that the stick-less RG34XX SP is unlikely to ever see the light of day, despite the popularity of the RG35XX SP.
