A number of games cost $9.99 for the upgrade to the new version on the Nintendo Switch 2. The Nintendo eShop now also lists Civilization VII as an upgrade pack for $9.99, while Hogwarts Legacy can be upgraded to the new version for the same price, as reported by Video Games Chronicle. According to Nvidia, the Nintendo Switch 2 offers ten times better graphics performance than the first-generation Switch, so the differences in graphics quality are significant.
This is clearly seen in the Hogwarts Legacy trailer embedded below, ranging from the higher resolution to the much more realistic lighting. But it's not just the visuals that benefit from the additional performance; the version for the Nintendo Switch 2 finally provides the open world that we are familiar with from the PS5 and PC versions, meaning that the loading screens when entering and leaving Hogwarts and many buildings have been eliminated.
The developers have already confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will run on the Nintendo Switch 2 in 1,440p resolution on the TV and in 1,080p in handheld mode, both with Nvidia DLSS, edge smoothing and HDR support enabled. The game also supports the mouse mode of the Joy-Con. The developers have also pointed out that customers who own Hogwarts Legacy on a game module can upgrade to the new version for $10, but this option must first be activated in the game before purchasing the upgrade from the eShop and downloading the new version.
