FREEDARE has announced that it will bring its new option in electrified mobility to Indiegogo later in May 2023. The start-up describes it as "the world's first smart fat tire e-bike", which seems to mean the multi-terrain IP5X two-wheeler comes with battery management, theft detection and route-planning via its own smartphone app. Its range, comfort and early-bird prices are also now being hyped ahead of its debut.

Update: FREEDARE has now accumulated well over 100% of its US$10,000 goal on Indiegogo within the first 24 hours of its debut on the crowdfunding site. Accordingly, the OEM now projects it will ship either variant of its new "smart fat tire" e-bike by July 2023 - however, as it turns out, it will only do so in the US or Canada at present. The new 2-wheeler now starts at US$1,599, or 36% off its planned retail price.

Original Article: FREEDARE has revealed that its upcoming e-bike will come in 2 step-through ("Eden") and step-over ("Saiga") variants, both of which will be powered by a Bafang motor with a 48V/750W output. There are more powerful alternatives out there; nevertheless, the start-up claims that its version can get up to 150 kilometers (km, or ~93 miles) out of its 48V/20Ah/960Wh battery.

That markedly long-range figure might only be achieved thanks to FREEDARE's "specialized torque sensor system" rated to optimize its pedal-assist mode based on the terrain in question. Nevertheless, the company also quotes an "average" range of 50 miles (~80km) that might be more realistic day-to-day.

FREEDARE also seeks to set its upcoming 26x4-inch tire e-bike apart with unprecedented "smart" features such as "battery control", calorie-tracking, and adjustable route-planning, all found in its own app. It also features remote tracking in cases of "unexpected situations while locked", apparently powered via a 4G/LTE-capable platform and on-board Qualcomm silicon.

The OEM has not gone into detail on these "chips", although it might do so on its May 9, 2023 premiere on Indiegogo. The FREEDARE Smart Fat Tire e-bike already has an MSRP of US$2,499 - however, it will start at US$1,000 off this price: a "Secret Perk" that might require membership to this Facebook group in advance to unlock.
