Nothing has confirmed that it is readying the release of its next smartphone, the Phone (2). Billed as 'premium', the Nothing Phone (2) will arrive this summer with a Snapdragon 8 series chipset. Seemingly, the Phone (2) will launch with Android 13 and the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, rather than newer alternatives.

Nothing has started teasing its next smartphone, only a few days after announcing the imminent release of Android 14 Beta for the Phone (1). While it is unclear when Nothing will open its Android 14 Beta program, the company hopes to start by delivering Android 14 Beta 1. Incidentally, only a few weeks have passed since Nothing introduced the Ear (2), which features several changes from the company's first pair of earbuds.

As expected, Nothing's next smartphone will be the Phone (2). Additionally, the company has billed the Phone (2) as 'premium', unlike its mid-range predecessor. At the time of writing, Nothing has only committed to announcing the Phone (2) in 'summer 2023', which stretches between June 21 and September 23. In other words, the Phone (2) is likely to arrive roughly a year after its predecessor. With Android 14 not reaching stable status until August, it seems unlikely that Nothing will have its Android 14 update ready for the release of the Phone (2), particularly considering how long it took for Android 13 to arrive on the Phone (1).

Moreover, Nothing has teased that the Phone (2) will rely on a Snapdragon 8 series chipset, rather than the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2. This should come as a secret though; a Qualcomm executive confirmed in March that the Phone (2) would utilise the Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1, effectively establishing a tradition of Nothing using last-generation chipsets. According to early benchmark results, the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 are evenly matched, but the former should be more power efficient than the latter. Other specifications are unknown for now, although we would expect Nothing to reveal more Phone (2) details in the coming weeks.
