Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate: Gaming smartphone with external fan
The Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate looks like an ordinary smartphone, but it differs from similarly powerful models with some special gaming features. These include the AirTrigger ultrasonic sensors in particular, the extremely responsive display and the supplied AeroActive Cooler 7 clip-on fan.
AirTrigger as L and R controller
Like its Asus ROG Phone 6 Pro predecessor, the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate also features the AirTrigger sensors. These simulate the L and R keys of classic gaming controllers and are located at the top and bottom of the right long sides and can thus be easily reached with the index fingers.
The AirTriggers support a total of 18 tap, swipe and slide gestures that can be individually configured for each game. For some games such as Call of Duty Mobile, Genshin Impact and PUBG Mobile, Asus supplies predefined AirTrigger presets so users don't have to manually assign the keys.
165Hz panel with 720Hz touch sampling rate
A gaming smartphone has to implement inputs without any delay if possible. This is not a problem for Asus' ROG Phone 7 Ultimate because its 165 Hz AMOLED panel reacts almost instantly to inputs thanks to its high touch sampling rate of 720 Hz and can be operated extremely smoothly overall.
Asus has also optimized its smartphone for gaming in terms of software. The ROG UI mainly differs from a standard Android 13 in its gaming features. Firstly, because the highest performance mode, X mode, is directly integrated into the UI. Secondly, apps such as Game Genie and Armory Crate can be used to configure not only the performance modes but also all important smartphone components such as the AirTrigger and the external fan.
