Asus ROG Phone 7 Ultimate undergoes 6-series-destroying durability gauntlet
Asus touts its ROG Phone series as the most powerful Android smartphones available, thanks to cutting-edge silicon that drive class-leading displays and specs such as up to 18GB of RAM. However, as proven on the popular JerryRigEverything YouTube channel, they are not the most practical of devices, being liable to snap in half despite their ~US$1,000 price-tags on Amazon.
This lack of durability was, unfortunately, attributed to the ROG Phone 6 Pro's purpose-built feature of having dual USB type-C ports to go with its 6,000mAh dual-battery system. Nevertheless, the technology has returned in the new 7 Ultimate.
Fortunately, according to JerryRigEverything's host Zach Nelson, the flagship's tendency to snap in half seems to have been overcome in this generation: in fact, bending it from one side was found to cancel out a partial bend from the other.
The vlogger also investigated the 7 Ultimate's updated AeroActive system, which has its own "exhaust port" on the smartphone itself for the best effect of its compatible Peltier cooling accessory. It is, apparently, possible to trick the Portal into staying open by partially dissembling the Cooler. Hopefully, that would not turn into a durability worry of its own in the long run.
