Google releases May 2023 updates for Pixel Watch and Pixel smartphones
Google is rolling out May updates for its Pixel portfolio, including the Pixel Watch. In short, both updates a relatively small, as was also the case with last month's updates. Typically, Google releases a Feature Drop every quarter, with the next one due in June. Presumably, Google will showcase major Android and Wear OS changes next week during I/O 2023, although these may not arrive until Android 14 and Wear OS 4, respectively.
Regardless, Google claims that the May update improves touchscreen responsiveness for the Pixel 7 Pro. The company caveats that this change will only be noticeable under certain conditions, albeit without specifying these conditions. Additionally, the May update should prevent lock screen elements from showing on the home screen across all eligible Pixel smartphones.
TQ2A.230505.002 should be available to download now on the Pixel 4a (5G) through Pixel 7 Pro, including US-locked devices. Please note that Google rolls out Pixel software updates in batches. Hence, your device may not start automatically downloading TQ2A.230505.002 for another few days. However, you can manually trigger its download by clicking on Check for Updates within the main settings menu. The same applies to the Pixel Watch, which has only received the May 2023 set of Android security patches with its RWDA.230114.013 update. Please see Google's latest Android Security Bulletin for details about what CVEs it has addressed this month.
