Next-generation Pixel Watch rumours emerge as one of two Google smartwatch release this year
According to 9to5Google and Jon Prosser, Google is working on a second-generation Pixel Watch. Purportedly, the Pixel Watch 2 could debut in a few months' time, despite the absence of rumours and leaks so far. Please note that 'Pixel Watch 2' is a working name for now; there is no evidence yet about the smartwatch's marketing name. Regardless, 9to5Google and Prosser assert that Google will showcase a second-generation Pixel Watch alongside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, mirroring last year's autumn release of the original Pixel Watch and Google's current flagship smartphones.
Currently, Google is expected to tease the Pixel 8 series during its I/O 2023 keynote, which it has scheduled for May 10. However, it is unclear whether the Pixel Watch 2 will receive a run out too, particularly as Google will launch the Pixel 7a, Pixel Fold and the Pixel Tablet during the same event, as well as a new Pixel Buds A-Series colour option. For reference, Google will use its I/O 2023 keynote to demonstrate an overview of Android 14 changes and possibly even a new version of Wear OS, too.
Prosser adds that Google has developed a second smartwatch, also due for release this autumn. Supposedly, Google will market the smartwatch for children under its Fitbit brand rather than as a child-friendly Pixel Watch. Although Prosser has not provided any further details about this second smartwatch, only a few weeks have passed since 9to5Google spotted a smartwatch fitting Prosser's description online being sold by a third party. Pricing has not leaked for either smartwatch yet, nor has the design of the Pixel Watch 2. Presumably, the latter will be one of the first smartwatches to launch with Wear OS 4 too, along with the Galaxy Watch6 series running One UI 5 Watch.
