Last week, Qualcomm showcased details about the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2, a replacement for the ill-fated Snapdragon 7 Gen 1. Effectively replacing the Snapdragon 778G and its derivatives as well, although the Snapdragon 782G arrived in November, Qualcomm boasted that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 would deliver twice the GPU performance of its predecessor and a 50% faster CPU.
While Qualcomm did not share any performance metrics in its Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 reveal, early Realme GT Neo5 SE and Xiaomi Redmi Note 12 Turbo benchmarks point to significant improvements for the Snapdragon 7 series. As a screenshot below shows, a Realme GT Neo5 SE unit has posted a 1,009,127 total score in AnTuTu v9, with 255,246 CPU and 360,306 GPU scores. Incidentally, AnTuTu confirms that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 has an Adreno 725 GPU; the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 series and Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 have Adreno 730 and Adreno 740 GPUs, respectively.

Based on our database, the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 compares favourably against even the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 in CPU lead tasks. However, while the Adreno 725 GPU offers over 2x the performance of the Adreno 642L in the Snapdragon 778G, it falls short of the Adreno 730 in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1. The same is the case in Geekbench 5.4 and Geekbench 6, where the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 is only a few per cent behind the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1. For reference, we have not benchmarked the Snapdragon 778G in Geekbench 6. The Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 is over 50% faster than the Snapdragon 778G in Geekbench 5 single-core but is 38% ahead in Geekbench 5 multi-core.
As always, we would recommend exercising some caution when making judgements based on early benchmark results. With that said, it appears that the Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2 blurs the lines between the Snapdragon 7 series and recent Snapdragon 8 chipsets. Xiaomi will release the Redmi Note 12 Turbo as the first Snapdragon 7 Plus Gen 2-powered device later this month. By contrast, Realme will introduce the GT Neo5 SE in April, which is also when Xiaomi is expected to launch the Redmi Note 12 Turbo globally as the POCO F5.
