Nothing Phone (2) makes Geekbench debut with flagship Snapdragon chip
Nothing Phone (2), the highly-anticipated successor of the Nothing Phone (1) has been teased by the company for a summer launch. Some of its specs have been leaked, too, such as a 120 Hz AMOLED screen, up to 12 GB RAM, 256 GB storage and a 5,000 mAh battery. Now, another piece of the proverbial Nothing Phone (2) puzzle has been revealed via a Geekbench listing.
Strictly speaking, the Phone (2)'s AP isn't exactly a secret. Qualcomm inadvertently confirmed it would pack a Snapdragon 8 series AP via a now-deleted Tweet. The Geekbench listing mentioned above essentially reaffirms said speculation, with the smartphone scoring 1,253 and 3,833 in its single and multi-core tests. That, combined with its motherboard name (Walt) and 12 GB of memory, confirms it is a Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1.
It is important to note the Nothing Phone (2)'s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC is operating at lower-than-usual clocks, with its Cortex-X3 clocked at 3.0 GHz (vs 3.2 GHz). The remaining Cortex-A710 and Cortex-A510 clusters are untouched, although that always stayed the same across both products. Therefore, one would be right to assume the SoC in question is a Snapdragon 8 Gen 1.
However, it is unlikely that the Nothing Phone (2) will use the Samsung-made Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 over its objectively superior successor. It is probably a lower-binned Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 variant with nerfed clocks, which isn't necessarily bad, as it lets Nothing save a few bucks and (hopefully) pass on the savings to the customer.
