VanMoof reveals new X4 and S4 city e-bikes
VanMoof has unveiled the X4 and S4 city e-bikes. Both new models can reach a top speed of 20 mph (~32 kph), offering four power modes and Turbo Boost for instant acceleration. The electric bicycles have a built-in battery with up to 87 miles (~140 km) range in economy mode or 37 miles (~60 km) with full power. You can recharge the battery to 50% in 90 minutes, with a full recharge taking 4.5 hours. Plus, you can buy a range-extending power pack to add 62 miles (~100 km) to your range, increasing the maximum possible distance to 149 miles (~240 km).
An app accompanies the X4 and S4 e-bikes with many intelligent features, including auto rider recognition, GSM location tracking and remote lockdown, to reduce the chance of theft. The bicycles also have anti-theft nuts and bolts and a keyless Kick Lock to secure the rear wheel and activate the alarm. The VanMoof bikes have an SP Connect phone mount, and you can add a front basket or rear carrier accessories. The difference between the models is in the design; the X4 e-bike is more compact, weighing 44.7 lbs (~20.3 kg). The electric bike is suitable for riders from 5 ft 1-in to 6 ft 2-in (~155 to 188 cm) tall and has 24-in wheels.
The heavier S4 weighs 47.6 lbs (~21.6 kg) and has 27.5-in wheels, suited to 5ft 5-in to 6ft 8-in (~165 to 203 cm) tall riders. The VanMoof X4 and S4 e-bikes are available in four colors, Evergreen (dark green), Purple Fog (purple), Sunbeam Yellow (yellow) and Foam Green (light green). The models launch in the US and EU this May, arriving in the UK in June, with the various colours to be released at different points in each market between now and August. The bicycles retail for US$2,498, £2,198 or €2,198.
