BenQ Zowie XL2586X: New 540 Hz gaming monitor and ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP rival detailed in early review video
A few months have now passed since BenQ announced XL2546X and XL2586X, a pair of monitors introduced under its Zowie division. While the company began selling the Zowie XL2546X immediately, it did not provide any indication of when the Zowie XL2586X would be available. Instead, it erroneously suggested that the monitor would retail for $599, which it has since corrected.
Now, YouTuber Optimum has shared his experiences with the Zowie XL2586X and clarified the state of its release. For clarity, BenQ bases the Zowie XL2586X around the same 540 Hz E-TN panel that underpins the ASUS ROG Swift Pro PG248QP. Consequently, the Zowie XL2586X combines its high refresh rate with a 1080p resolution, a 1,400:1 contrast ratio and 92.5% DCI-P3 colour space coverage, according to Optimum.
Moreover, Optimum measured 1.1 ms GtG response times on average, which is slightly slower than the ROG Swift Pro PG248QP. However, the YouTuber notes that BenQ's DyAc 2 backlight strobing technology does not reduce motion blur as much as it would on a slower 240 Hz panel. Furthermore, the Zowie XL2586X lacks an NVIDIA G-SYNC and Reflex module and is nearly 100 nits down on the ROG Swift Pro PG248QP with DyAc 2 disabled (357 nits vs. 446 nits).
For context, ASUS has been selling the ROG Swift Pro PG248QP for almost five months, with pricing remaining steadfast at its $899 MSRP in the US. By contrast, Optimum reports that BenQ has not settled on a price yet either, adding that the company is 'still kind of figuring that one out'. As such, it seems that the Zowie XL2586X remains a way off from being released.
