The Vivo X200 Pro proves to be a very decent smartphone in many areas in our review, but there are also massive flaws in terms of heat dissipation and performance stability. Then again, the latter seems to be a general trend in current high-end phones.

In our review, the Vivo X200 Pro turned out to be a kind of smartphone of extremes. Many areas of the flagship phone have been very successfully implemented, such as the extremely bright display and the superb camera system. On the other hand, the Vivo X200 Pro suffers from extreme SoC throttling.

Vivo X200 Pro with bright 120 Hz screen

The 6.78-inch, 1,260p AMOLED of the X200 Pro, which is curved on all sides, not only uses LTPO technology with a very low minimum refresh rate of 0.1 Hz, but also PWM dimming that is very easy on the eyes - we registered around 2,380 Hz in our test. The OLED panel is also extremely bright with a peak brightness of 4,812 cd/m² when playing HDR content. The realistic APL18 test also impressed with a very high brightness of 2,521 cd/m².

Vivo's image algorithms are first class

A real highlight is the camera system of the Vivo X200 Pro with its 1/1.28 inch Sony sensor (LYT-818). Although this is significantly smaller than the IMX989 in the Vivo X100 Pro, it still delivers very strong photo quality in our test shots, especially when compared to photos of the Apple iPhone 16 Pro Max. The 50 MP lens with the Zeiss T* coating has extremely good HDR processing, which means that the dynamic range and exposure are usually excellent. Readers can find out where we still see room for improvement in our review.

However, high photo quality is not just restricted to the main camera. The new 200 MP telephoto lens with its stepless 3.7x magnification is very impressive up to a zoom level of 10x, even when taking photos in full resolution under less than ideal lighting conditions - visibly better than Samsung's Galaxy S24 Ultra. Our test photos also show a lot of detail and good sharpness for the 50 MP ultra-wide-angle lens.

Vivo X200 Pro with extreme throttling

The MediaTek Dimensity 9400 installed in the Vivo X200 Pro is a powerful high-end SoC that performs on par with the Snapdragon 8 Elite in the OnePlus 13 in our benchmarks. However, both smartphones also have pronounced heat dissipation problems with high surface temperatures in our burnout benchmark scenario. In the Wild Life Stress tests of 3DMark, this leads to an even higher throttling of the system performance of up to 60% in the Vivo X200 Pro, which may significantly impact everyday use.
