Vivo has gotten into the compact smartphone trend with the X200 Pro Mini, a device touted to avoid compromises despite its 6.31-inch display. However, it does miss out on some of its 'normal' 6.78-inch sibling's best upgrades nonetheless.
For example, the X200 Pro has a top-end 200MP periscope zoom lens and an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor, whereas the Pro Mini does not.
The former might be a reasonable compromise, although swapping the latter for its last-gen optical counterpart is one of the compact handset's main drawbacks in day-to-day use, according to esteemed leaker Digital Chat Station.
The next Mini smartphone of note might be able to overcome this defect, though, according to the same leaker. It will also apparently support wireless charging as well as periscope zoom photography (although the X200 Pro Mini does already do the former, and at the same top rate as the rest of the current X200 series).
A fingerprint sensor upgrade would help the "X300 Pro Mini" to compete with devices such as the Xiaomi 15, which already has the more up-to-date ultrasonic version of the technology. However, the next-gen Vivo smartphone might not be here until October 2025, according to the latest rumors.
It will now be very interesting to see what kind of fingerprint sensor will be used by other allegedly upcoming compact smartphone such as the Oppo Find X8 Mini and OnePlus "13T".
