Instagram will soon be full of partially AI-generated videos, as having a video changed by AI will soon only require a short description of the desired changes. Users are not happy about the prospect of even more AI content.

Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri has announced new AI tools, called "Movie Gen", for the social networking platform in a recent announcement video (embedded below). The way it works is simple: users upload a video, activate the "Movie Gen" filter and describe in a few words how the video should be changed by AI.

The announcement video itself gives a foretaste of what such AI adjustments will look like, from changing the clothes of a person to the "context", namely the surroundings. The aim is for users to be able to change any aspect of a video in a matter of seconds by simply typing in what they want to change. Movie Gen is expected to launch next year, although Mosseri has not yet confirmed a specific timeline or more detailed information on the functionality of the final feature.

While the Instagram CEO is enthusiastic about the possibilities of Movie Gen, many Instagram users are visibly annoyed about the prospect of soon being confronted with even more AI-generated content. In the comments, Instagram users call for an AI-free feed and better monetization of authentic and non-AI-generated content, while many criticize the platform for actively promoting the creation of "fake videos" and unoriginal content. The social network apparently also has no plans to label AI-generated videos as such, as the unofficial announcement video by Adam Mosseri shows.
